Robert Louis DiGuardi – Succumbed to his battle with cancer on June 15, 2009.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 41 years, Kathie (Hastler), his son Gino and wife Jenny (Eisenhauer) of Chicago, and his daughter Nina and husband Vlad Vasiliu of Kettering.
Bob was born in Rochester, NY, on June 21, 1946. He graduated from The Aquinas Institute as a NY State Regents Scholar. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering (68), as well as his MBA (71), from the University of Dayton, where he was a member of IEEE. He worked as an electrical engineer at GM and Schriber (later called Harris Intertype). He obtained his real estate license, which ultimately led to his final vocation as founder and President of Saxony Builders, Inc. His company was involved in residential and light commercial construction for 33 years in Dayton and the Miami Valley until his illness forced his retirement. He most enjoyed homebuilding, personally designed and rendered most architectural drawings himself, was known for his woodworks and personalized appointments, and created over 100 custom homes for Dayton area families.
Bob was an avid baseball fan and followed both the Reds and Cubs. He was a youth coach of baseball and soccer. His final love was soccer, as both of his children were college players. He was a world history buff and music lover.
Bob is also survived by his parents-in-law, Col. Cliff (USAF-Ret.) and Norma Hastler of Fairborn, OH, his brother-in-law, Don Hastler of Portland, OR, sister-in-law, Lynn Hastler of Spanaway, WA, brother- and sister-in-law, Russ and Diana (Ross) Hastler of Dayton, their children Heather (Todd) Emery and nephew Jacob of Dayton, and Derrick and Kim (Griebel) Hastler of Grove City.
Bob is preceded in death by his father, S.J. DiGuardi (1951). He is survived by his mother, Mary (Rizzo) of NY, but preceded by her companion of 25 years, Jerry Keys. He is also preceded in death by his grandparents, Luigi and Angelina (Chippone) DiGuardi, and Michael and Anna (Jerris) Rizzo. His sister Lynn (Robert) Duttinger of NY and their children Sarah, Bobby, Carolyn (Eric) LaRoche and nephews Alex and Logan, and Chrissa Duttinger and nephew Adam survive him, as does his brother Scott Pickup of St. Louis. Bob is also survived by his favorite aunt and uncle, Tom and Marian Rizzo of Buffalo, as well as many other aunts, uncles, and cousins scattered throughout New York.
In keeping with Bob's wishes, there will be a private remembrance for the family with no funeral service.
