Robert W. Louis, 79, passed away peacefully, January 2, 2021, after a lengthy period of failing health. He was born March 28, 1941, in Tell City, Indiana, to Joseph and Lena Louis. He graduated from Tell City HS in 1959 and went on to graduate from Purdue University in 1965 with an Electrical Engineering Degree.
Robert settled in Dayton, Ohio, where he met Nancy Jones. They married and had three girls. Roberts' lifelong position with General Motors Corporation (25 years) took his family to Alabama and New York State. Robert instilled a love and appreciation for music and the outdoors in his girls. They were never exempt from mowing the lawn, stacking wood, helping with the garden and many outdoor hiking trips. He loved to stop along a hiking trail, MANY TIMES, so he could look up what kind of plant or tree he came upon and then show his girls! A talented musician, he could play any song on the piano, once he had heard it. He also played the banjo, coronet and accordion.
Upon returning to Ohio, he continued to work for General Motors Corporation. After retiring from GM, he then worked as an Independent Contractor for 15 years with the Dayton-Phoenix Group. It was during these years, he continued tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, became a craftsman in woodworking, indulged his passion for the outdoors by being heavily involved in the Beaver Creek Wetland Association, and hiked many trails with his canine companion, Lady. He could often be found with his three grandchildren, on the floor of the family room playing house, school or barbies, playing baseball or at the playground. He is also remembered for his love of playing card and board games with anyone who wanted to play.
Robert never said no to helping family, friends or a stranger. It was always certain he would strike up a conversation with anyone.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Lena Louis.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy; their three daughters, Katherine Smith, Sandy Louis and Jennifer Eller (Christopher); three grandchildren, Meghan Jensen, Alexandria and Caleb Smith; and two cousins, James Seibert and Carolyn Dykeman.
There will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation to your favorite charity in his name.
