SIMROSS, Robert L.
Age 77, of Dayton, passed away, July 18, 2010 after a courageous 5 year battle with cancer.
He was born September 12, 1932 in Newark, OH to Theodore & Treva Simross. He graduated from Granville High School & then served in the Marine Corps. He attended Otterbein College as a ministerial student where he met & married Janet Bishop in 1956. They divorced in 1971. He married Pat Abshire in 1989.
Robert worked in the small engine industry with Roper Corporation in Newark & Savannah GA. After retiring from Roper, he then worked for Tecumseh Engines in Milwaukee, WI & then retired from Briggs & Stratton in Newark & Dayton. He & Pat retired to Parrish, FL for a few years, enjoying golf & fishing, before returning to Dayton to be closer to family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Jeff; brother Bill, & nephew Terry.
Robert is survived by his wife Pat, sons Tim (Danni) Simross of Euless, TX & Greg (Jody) Simross of Belvidere, IL; daughter Judy Ghiloni of Middletown; step-sons Steve Abshire, Miamisburg, Chris (Maureen) Abshire & Jeff (Michelle) Abshire all of Dayton; 9 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren, & 2 great-grandchildren, brother Jim (Ruth) Simross, Newark; & sister Barbara Jean Stansberry of Zanesville; numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins.
Visitation will be held Thurs. July 22 from 5-8pm at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, where services will be held 10:30am on Friday at the funeral home.
Burial to follow Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
