Robert H. George 87 of Beavercreek passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 30th in Dayton. He was born June 26, 1935 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to the late Henry George and Alice George (Blood). Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Robert graduated from The University of Arkansas with a mechanical engineering degree. He served three years of active duty as a US Air Force officer and then pursued an engineering career with the US Air Force as a civilian. He studied the technical capabilities of foreign countries' air and space forces, primarily those of the Soviet Union. After 35 years of civilian service, he retired from the National Air Intelligence Center as Chief of Ballistic Missiles. One of the objects of his team's attention now stands at the entry hall of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, the Soviet SS-20 ballistic missile.
Robert's greatest achievement is his family. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their scholastic and musical events and spending time with his great-grandchildren. His interests included trains, photography, writing, spending time with his friends at the mall and firefighting, as his dad was a fire chief.
Robert is survived by his dear wife of 65 years, Barbara George (Corley), children and their spouses: Nancy and Robert Martin of Crossville, Tennessee, Jeffrey and Shelli George of Dayton, Ohio, grandchildren: Elizabeth (Kegan) Sickels, Alexander George, and Abbagaile George, great grandchildren: Violet, Oliver, and Elliot Sickels, brother and sister in-law: Thomas and Judy Corley, nephews and their spouses: Thomas (Michelle) Corley and William (Christine) Corley and many cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). He will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery following the service.
