Commander Robert F. "Bob" Bauer, USN (Ret.) of Beavercreek passed away Monday, November 17, 2014. He was born on February 15, 1928 in Hamilton, Missouri to the late Francis Joseph and Daisy (Emmons) Bauer. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree with Distinction in 1950, from Harvard Business School with a Masters of Business Administration in 1958, and from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island in 1964. His 20 year career in the Navy included tours of duty on the USS McCaffery, USS Vulcan, and USS Amphion as well at the New York and Norfolk Naval Bases, the Defense Electronic Supply Center in Kettering, the Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield, Utah, and as a member of the US Naval Mission to Montevideo, Uruguay. Following his military retirement, he became the controller for the Southwestern Portland Cement Company in Fairborn and variously served as Division General Manager and Acting General Manager until his retirement in 1990. Bob was a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Fairborn, the US Navy League, and the US Naval Institute.

In addition to his parents, his was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 57 years, Anna B. "Bobby" Bauer and his daughter-in-law, Beth Bauer. He is survived by his brother, Joseph L. Bauer of Ypsilanti, Michigan; daughter, Frances (Bill) Morrow, of Grove City, Ohio; and sons, William of Clearwater, Florida and Robert (Robin) of Beavercreek. Also surviving are grandchildren Lauren Morrow, Briana Bauer, Kristen Morrow, and Scott Bauer.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at the Newcomer Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor David Blackstone (Belfast Baptist Church of Goshen, Ohio), will follow at 6:30 pm. Internment with full military honors will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, where Bob will join his wife, Anna, in Section 60, Grave 125. The burial will be preceded by a short military funeral service at the Old Post Chapel at Fort Meyer, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Navy League of the United States in his name.
