Robert Harvey Byers born August 5 1931 he shares this birthdate with his granddaughter, Brittany. He and his sister Donna were born into a hard-working farming, family in Indiana. Bob, as he was known by most -worked for Schwerman trucking for 48 years. It was his only job. He was very proud of his occupation and took his boys to work with him on Saturdays to give mom a little break. The boys loved playing in the trucks. The Schwerman family became his family as did most of those that came in contact with him… He never knew a stranger. His oldest son Mike became a truck driver as well as his son-in-law Steve. Bob was the most hard-working man in the business, the most kind and silly. We never knew when he was joking around with us or being serious. His passion for hard work and family life is unmatched. His kindness and loving heart touched everyone he met. If you were lucky enough to know him, you instantly became family.
His hobbies consisted of going to auctions and toy shows with his wife to find her pottery and LonganBerger baskets plus a few toy tractors for his mighty collection.
There was nothing he wouldn't do for his wife Ramona. She was the center of his world and he made sure she knew it every day. Their love was like no other something to be admired. 72 years of marriage, and they are still so much in love. The love they shared together was tangible.
Some of his favorite things to do were attending the Iowa State Fair, the tractor pulls, and the Races with his boys. NASCAR was his first love, but nothing compared to watching his son-in-law Doug and grandson Adam race the dirt track.
Football was also one of his greatest loves, especially when he could watch his grandson Cody play on some of the biggest stages - state championships in high school and in college games at Wisconsin. Upon retirement, he enjoyed driving a tractor during harvest season.
And selling cars with his grandson Wes on his Car Lot. He supported each one of his children and all of his grandchildren in everything they did from the love of quilting to art projects, gymnastics, cheerleading, volleyball and horseback riding. You could always count on him to be there cheering you on.
His presence lit up the room, his smile contagious, his life unforgettable.
The blessing he was on this earth is incomparable - and he will be missed very much by so many.
Dad it's our turn, we will take it from here. We will take care of mom don't you worry! Save us a place in heaven….kick up your feet, you've earned it.
Rest, easy now we love you always - you & your love for us will never be forgotten.
