Robert "Bob" N. Hennigan (74) passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021, in Ohio Hospice of Dayton. Born in Chico, California, March 4, 1947, to Robert "Bud" D. and Barbara "Bun" J. Hennigan, Bob is survived by his loving wife, Barbara D. Hennigan (Jackson), daughters Alicia Doherty and Kathryn Jackson, sons Daniel Hennigan and James Jackson, sisters Barbara Wallace and Carol Galland, and 6 grandchildren. Bob married Linda Lawrence in 1967 and had two children, Alicia and Daniel. He married Barbara Jackson in 1991 and gained Kathryn and James as step-children.
Bob was raised on a sheep, wheat, and hay farm in north Chico, which they later transitioned to almonds and walnuts. From 1973 until retirement in 2010, he continued to develop and manage the family farm and other farmland.
Before he could drive, Bob owned an airplane. Having spent his college fund on the plane, he subsidized his Bachelor's degrees, in Business Management and Aeronautics at San Jose State University, as a flight instructor out of the San Jose Airport. From 1968 to 1970, Bob served as an officer in the USNR. After graduation (1970) he was a flight instructor, and a cargo and passenger pilot. From 1989 to1998, he was an Air Attack Pilot for California Department of Forestry, saving forest, dwellings, and lives. From 1999-2000 Bob flew 747's for Atlas Air internationally. Between 2000-2006, Bob was a founder, partner, and pilot of BeeLine Bombers, flying on fires all around the Western US.
Bob was deeply involved in the community and dedicated to supporting others on their paths, honoring their efforts, and contributing where he could both materially and spiritually. He served as an Ordained Elder at Bidwell Presbyterian Church, a longtime member of Chico Rotary, an AG Leadership Associate, and on the Board of Directors for California Farm Bureau. He helped found and was Chair for Nord Country School from 2004-2011. He and Barbara were also very active in preserving water for Northern California farmers and communities.
Bob was such a loving and caring father, husband, and leader in the community. He will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.
We will be celebrating his life at Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian Church, 208 W 1st St., Chico, CA on Monday January 31st at 1:00PM.
