Robert L. "Bob" Berger, age 80, of Beavercreek, passed away on July 6, 2022, with his loving wife of 59 years by his side. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, on March 29, 1942, the son of the late John and Martha Berger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, John Berger, Richard "Dick" Berger and Patricia "Patty" Huffman.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Karen (Burton) Berger; his daughters, Kim (Mike) Viets, Debbie (Jeff) Beal and Tammy (Dan) Bondurant; grandchildren, Jesse Beal, Mikayla Viets, Austin Bondurant, Zach Bondurant, Kendra Bondurant and Danielle Bondurant; great granddaughter, Natalie Beal; sisters-in-law, Helen Berger, Cameron Berger and Karen Burton; cousin, John Baughman; and many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He graduated from Stivers High School, Class of 1961, where he lettered in Football, Basketball and Baseball. Bob retired from GHR Foundry and previously worked for Scitex, Kettering Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. Bob was a Volunteer Firefighter for 33 years with the Kettering Fire Dept., Station 4/34. He received the Volunteer Firefighter of the Year Award and the 30 year Award for his service. He was a member of his High School Alumni Association and the Stivers High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also very involved with coaching for various teams, including Fairbrook Elementary Basketball, EKRC Girls Softball and Ascension Church Girls Basketball teams. He also played with the Otterbein Church Softball Team, Firehouse Softball Team and bowled for several years. Bob participated in the over 70 Softball League in Kettering. In his free time, he enjoyed camping, collecting beer cans, collecting Baseball cards and was an avid collector of all things involving Fire Fighting. He also made sure to donate blood until he was forced to quit for health reasons. He had donated over 158 times, for a total of 20 gallons. Bob was very devoted to his family and loved to support his grandchildren in all of their sporting activities. He was also a huge Buckeye fan (and hated Michigan! "O-H-I-O!"). Bob never knew a stranger and was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was a wonderful Husband, Father and Grandfather. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm-8:00pm, on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am, on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery.
