Richard Harry Wolfe, age 92 of Dayton, Ohio passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 2, 2024. He was born in Van Wert, Ohio in 1932 to Clifford and Bertha Wolfe. He was preceded in death his brother Robert K. Wolfe and life-Long friend Edward Sensenbrenner. He is survived by his wife Janet (Darby) Wolfe for 69 years, father of Julie Miller, Robert Wolfe and Lucinda (John) Sopczak. Grandpa to Michael (Christii) Miller, Abbey, Haley, Chelsey and Jared Wolfe, Rachel (Aaron) George, Matthew and Christopher Sopczak. Great Grandpa to Elizabeth (Josh) and Kyle (Hannah) Miller. Great - Great Grandpa to Aaliyah and Aubrey George, Carter and Callie Brooks.
He moved to Columbus, Ohio and was a 1950 graduate of Columbus West High School. Richard went to Miami University for 2 years, then transferred to Ohio State University where he graduated from Ohio State Business college and was commissioned into the United States Air Force in 1954. He fulfilled his dream as a pilot (props, jets) his whole Military career, he was a flight instructor, worked at the Berlin Air Safety Center with British, French and Russians, went to Vietnam, worked for the Air Force Logistics Command at W.P.A.F.B and retired as Lt. Colonel in 1979; along the way he earned his Master’s Degree at University of Oklahoma. After retirement, he flew Corporate for the Mead Corporation. After working for The Mead Corporation, he became involved as a Rep. consultant (self-employed) for the Air Force contracts, spent time at the Pentagon, L.A.M.A., Shorts Brothers aircraft out of Ireland, Monterey Consultants Inc. "Monterey Original Fab- Five Member”.
Richards true love and partner in all their adventures was with his wife Janet who spent 70 years by his side. He was a very devoted Family man with devout faith and sang in the choir wherever he Lived. He was very kind, loving, generous and his family meant the world to him. He had strong friendships and stayed in touch with his West High School group, he had a cast camaraderie of military friends as well as forming bonds with many friends he met throughout his life. He was an avid sports fan. He loved watching golf, Ohio State Football and Basketball, The Reds, and any sport the grandkids played. He loved music and played the piano and the baritone. Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Richard’s memory.
Visitation will be Friday, August 16, 2024 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, with service to follow at 11:30 am at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). Richard will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery following his service.
