Richard Wagner Williams

May 11, 1932 — February 13, 2024

Richard Wagner "Dick" Williams, age 92, passed away Tuesday, February 13th, 2024, at Kettering Health Main Campus. He was born May 11th, 1932, in Dayton, Ohio, and is the son of the late Melvin and Eleanora Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Mae Williams; and one sibling.

Richard "Dick" is survived by his children, Richard "Rick" Williams of Dayton, Ohio and Teri (Craig) Eckley of Centerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Maddison (Owen) Measel of Centerville, Ohio, Mackenzie (Timothy) Krapfel of Centerville, Ohio, and Mason Eckley of Centerville, Ohio; great grandchildren, Harlow Krapfel and Emery Krapfel; as well as many loving friends.

Richard was enlisted with the Ohio National Guard at 16 years old. In February of 1952, he was activated with the 37th Division into the Korean War. He was ranked Sergeant and received numerous medals, including the Peace Medal.

He started his career as a Pressman at the McCall Corporation. From there, he went to work at the Dayton Press, and soon after had the opportunity to go and work at Sheffield Measurement, where he was for 30 years. He also worked for Kettering Park and Recreation for 18 years, retiring finally at the age of 82.

Richard married the love of his life, Carolyn Mae Williams, on February 17th, 1951, and they were married for 72 years. Richard and Carolyn loved to travel, camp, and water ski. They belonged to the Dayton Family Campers & Airstream Club for many years. In the summers, you could find them enjoying the beautiful Norris Lake, with their children and grandchildren.

Richard loved to ride and race his 10 speed. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and riding bikes with his son, Rick, any chance they could. He had a big personality and enjoyed meeting with and talking to people. If people were laughing and having a good time, you knew Richard was in the room. To know him was to love him. He deeply loved his family and any time spent together. His grandchildren will always cherish the stories he told about his life, the sleepovers at their grandparent's house with Rocky Road Ice Cream, and the car rides in the convertible with the top down. He will always be remembered and loved by many.
