Richard T. Taliaferro

December 20, 1922 — February 13, 2014

Lt. Col. Richard T. Taliaferro passed away February 13, 2014. He was born in Naco, Arizona December 20, 1922, the son of Mary (nee Dodson) and Harry H. Taliaferro. He graduated from Nogales High School in 1940.

In 1942 he enlisted in the US Army Air Crops and graduated as a B-24 Navigator in 1943 from Mather Field in California. He flew 29 combat missions in the European theater of operations. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal in 1945. He later graduated from twin-engine flying school, and thereafter served as a pilot and communications officer until his retirement in 1963. He joined the faculty of the Air Force Institute of Technology after attaining a PhD in Economics from St. Louis University. He retired from AFIT in 1997 as Professor of Economics.

Dr. Taliaferro was a CFA, PE, PFA, was fluent in Spanish, an avid reader, golfer, loved history, and studied the Spanish guitar.

He and Elaine Stokes married April 11, 1951. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Anne Rooth. He is survived by Elaine and their 5 children: Julie (Brad) Campbell, Dennis (Meri), Richard (Jessie), David (An), and Janice, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

The family attended a private memorial April 25, 2014 with burial at the Dayton National Cemetery with full military honors.
