Richard Sturgell, Sr., age 78 of Dayton, OH passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013. He was born in Kokomo, IN to the late Ivan and Pearl (Crabtree) Sturgell. He later moved with his family to Portsmouth, OH where he was raised. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son Richard Sturgell, Jr.; Brother, Gary Sturgell; 3 grandchildren; and good friend Vince Shepherd.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy May Sturgell; children, Victor Sturgell, Roxanne Nuthman, Shawn Sturgell, and Scott Sturgell; 33 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernard, Ronnie, Jonny, and Mike; sister, Sharon; best friend, Rooster; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Richard proudly served the United States in the U.S. Army, he enlisted as a young man and served two terms before he was honorably discharged due to an injury. He then went to work at Wright Patterson Air Force Base until his retirement.
Richard was a generous man, always helping those in need, including volunteering for the American Red Cross and Dayton VA. He enjoyed all aspects of his life, including camping with the kids and grandkids at Lake Laramie, vacationing at his "snow-bird" home in Florida, and playing poker and other card games, he also played softball and was a coach and sponsor of Dick & Dots Softball Team.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
