Smith, Richard Bert, 83, of Fairborn, passed away January 14, 2017.
He was born June 22, 1933 in Jamestown, Ohio to the late James and Marie (Ford) Smith. Richard was a Korean War Veteran proudly serving our country with the U.S. Air Force. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his valiant service. Richard enjoyed bowling and watching football. He was known for his very compassionate and helpful spirit.
Richard was preceded in death by his baby sister, Suzanne Firestone. He is survived by his children, James Michael Smith, Timothy Neil Smith and wife, Marilyn, Deborah Marie Smith, Richard Bert Goldsmith; 3 grandchildren, Mary Fowler, Josh Smith, Rachel Straub; 2 great grandchildren, Collin and Connor Fowler; 3 nephews, and his beloved companion, Lois Smith.
Friends may call from 9:00am until time of service at 10:00am on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home 4104 Needmore Rd. Richard will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the V.A. Hospice in Richard's memory.
