RIPLEY, Richard Ronald 82, died December 20, 2014. He was born April 8, 1932, in Akron, Ohio to Vern and Alice Ripley. Dick attended Coventry High where he excelled in football, basketball and track. He was also a three-sport athlete in college: football at North Dakota, swimming at Baldwin Wallace and hockey at Kent State, where he received his bachelor's degree. Dick proudly served his country in the Army 1952-55, including duty in Okinawa, Japan. Dick loved his family (especially grandchildren), eating ice cream (always in large bowls), working crosswords (with a pen, of course), telling jokes (preferably with puns), playing cards (particularly cribbage), the Browns (more if they won), and Portage Lakes. He is loved and deeply missed by Jo, his wife of 42 years; his 11 children; 20 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and sister, Dian Ferragine. Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Vern L. Ripley III. Cobblestone Community Church in Lebanon will host a memorial service at 1 p.m., January 10. In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial gift to the Alzheimer's Association,alz.org.
