Richard "Dick" Payne Sr., 92, of Kettering, OH passed away surrounded by his family at Heartland of Kettering on Saturday April 16, 2011. Preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ann Payne (Mantis), and uncle, Walter Payne; survivors include son, Ric Payne and partner of 33 years, Robyn Hall of Cincinnati; daughters Kathi (Manos) Manoussakis of Kettering and Cyndi (Keith) Willoughby of Springboro; grandchildren, Jason and Mat Hall, Tom and Bill Manoussakis, and Maggie and Stacie Willoughby.
Richard was a charter member of Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church. He was a retired tailor from Rike-Kumler and Sears and also worked for Gentry Shops. He was an active member of the Charles Lathrem Senior Center. During WWII, Richard served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corp where he served in the China Burma India Offensive and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was in the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) and helped build the John Bryan Clifton Gorge Park. Richard was one of the first children raised at Shawn Acres Orphanage. Richard was also known for his sense of humor.
Visitation is Wednesday April 20, 2011 from 5-8pm at the Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel), Kettering, OH.
Funeral service is Thursday April 21, 2011 at 10am at the Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, Kettering, OH.
Burial is at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church in his name. Special thanks to Heartland of Kettering and Heartland Hospice for their special care and attention toward Richard.
