Richard "Bruce" Lowry, aged 82, of Beavercreek, Ohio died peacefully at home of natural causes on August 18, 2021.
He was born in Memphis, Tennessee to Richard and Marjorie Lowry.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Frances Jean Lowry.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Dr. Rebecca Stevenson Lowry, his son, Richard Bruce Lowry, Jr. (Wendie) of Duluth, GA and grandsons Patrick Lowry and Connor Lowry of Duluth, GA. His brothers; William (Rebecca) Lowry of Clemmons, NC and John (Mary Linn Durbin) Lowry of Atlanta, GA and his sisters; Virginia Lowry Ives of Chapel Hill, NC and Barbara (Gib) Landes of Atlanta GA. He also leaves behind 4 nieces and nephews and 6 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew who loved him dearly.

He grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia and Columbus, Georgia and graduated from Columbus High School in 1958. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the University of Georgia and received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Georgia Law School in 1966. He remained an avid Bulldog fan throughout his life.
After Law school he served in the US Air Force as a second Lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General office.

Early in his career he practiced law in Athens, Georgia. He and Rebecca married in Roanoke, Virginia in 1986 and later moved to Dayton, Ohio where he was very active as a Mediator for many years for the Montgomery County Court system.

He received special recognitions for his service to the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Mediation Program in 2004 and 2007, and a certificate of appreciation for serving on the board of directors of the TCN Behavioral Health program in Fairborn, Ohio for several years. He was also an associate professor at Central State University where he taught business law.

Bruce will be remembered as a kind man, who was a talented musician, with a great sense of humor. He had a deep appreciation of the gift of music and performed alone and with other musicians throughout his life. His music was also part of the strong bond he had with his siblings. He loved playing and singing with them at family gatherings through the years. To play the guitar with his brothers was one of his great joys. He was also an animal lover and adored his dogs and cats who were his pets through the years. Two of them, Alfie and Sandy, remained by his side as he left this earth.

Bruce was a man who learned to "never take himself too seriously", who cared deeply about his friends and family and was a wonderful mentor. He was a long time "Friend of Bill W." and made a lasting difference in the lives of so many.

His family will receive visitors Monday, August 23, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek) from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
