Richard E. Lewis

Richard E. Lewis, age 83 of Beavercreek, OH passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020 at V.A. Medical Center. He was born July 9, 1937 in Fleming, Kentucky to Walter and Ora (Stephens) Lewis.

Richard is survived by his son, Rick Lewis; his daughter, Lanette L. (John) Allison; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Laura Allison; a great grandchild, Jaxon; his longtime companion, Rose Gartenmayer; and other numerous family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Reba Cook.

Richard was a lifelong musician and a master of the mandolin. He was member of a traveling singing group "The Country Gospel-Aires", several bluegrass bands and was well known throughout Ohio playing many fairs and festivals. Richard was a featured performer at Mountain Days, sharing the stage with Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, the Osborne Brothers and many other bluegrass legends. He opened the Gospel Music Center in East Dayton where he first met Bill Gaither. The store was a major supplier of sheet music, records, bibles and was a ticket broker for gospel and country concerts at Dayton's Memorial Hall.

Richard retired from the E.F. McDonald Company, Mail-A-Way. He was a huge Kentucky Wildcat fan, who never missed a game on radio or television and was a true patriot who loved his country. Richard proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, and volunteered at the Air Force Museum. He truly enjoyed life, loved getting together with family and looked forward to summer cookouts.

A visitation will be held on Friday August 21, 2020 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at the funeral home at 11:00 am. A private family internment will take place at Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton, OH.
