RICHARD A. LACKEY
Richard Allen Lackey, 86, of Miamisburg, OH, passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2013.
He was born in Johnstown, PA, on July 14, 1927, to the late Scott Richard and Mary Ellen (Beal) Lackey, and grew up between Johnstown, where his parents were educators, and the family farm in Clarks Mills, PA.
He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1945 and began farming. He married in 1950 and had three daughters before the union ended in divorce. An injury forced him to give up farming and to seek a new career.
He graduated from Penn Technical Institute and married Carolee Anne Simpson in 1964; they traveled throughout the South and Midwest as he worked as a field technician with the Lorac Corporation. Eventually they settled down in Miamisburg, OH, where he worked for the R.L. Drake Company for 26 years before retiring. In his spare time he pursued interests in photography and genealogy, and was active in local civics--serving as a ward leader and precinct captain, as well as by serving on several citizens' advisory boards.
Richard is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carolee Anne (Simpson) Lackey, their son Matthew Scott Lackey, as well as his daughter Mary Evelyn (Paul) Robinette; his granddaughters: Sharon Lee (Robinette) Leckey, Latasha Marie Morales, and Tara Lee Nunez; and his great-grandchildren: Aiyana Nunez Holloman, David 'Cole' Nicholas Leckey, and Lola Ann Lackey.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his daughters, Wilda Marie (John) Nunez and Bonnie (Billy) Knighten, as well as his brother, Norman Lackey, and his sister, Dr. Ellen Lackey Spotz Bunyan.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 13, 2013 from 6pm to 7pm with services following on Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 1pm, all at the Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel), Kettering, OH.
