Richard L. Edsall

EDSALL, Richard L. "Rick", age 61 of Washington Township, passed away at Kettering Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, June 3, 2008. Rick was born on October 13, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1964. He was an Army Paratrooper and an Air Force Supply Sgt. during the Vietnam era. He attended the College of the Dayton Art Institute and graduated from Wright State University in 1978 with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Fine Art. He graduated from Northern Kentucky University, Salmon P. Chase College of Law, with a Juris Doctorate Degree in 1982. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1982. He was also admitted to practice before the 6th District Court of Appeals, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. He retired from the AF Material Command Law Office in 2002 as GS-15, Chief of the System Programs Division, Directorate of Contract Law. He was an active member of the Dayton Chapter Federal Bar Association, serving as President from 1991-1992. He served on the CHS High School Booster Board from 1982 to 1986 and was President in 1986. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard A. Edsall and Zula (Smith). He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia "Patti" (Murray); 1 son, Richard L. Edsall II, "Rick"; daughter-in-law, Denise (Carmichael); grandchildren, Tyler, Savannah, and Casey; brother, David A. Edsall; sister-in-law, Karen Edsall; nephew, Douglas A. Edsall, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Rick was a published cartoonist and a life member of the National Rifle Association. He believed it was every law abiding citizen's right to bare arms. Special thanks to Dr. Robert Raju and his staff at D.O.H.; Dr. Ronald S. Kahn and staff, and all the nurses at the Kettering Medical Center Same Day Services and on 3 South. Memorial services will be held at 3:30pm Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering. Family will receive friends from 1:30pm until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
