Lt. Col. Richard "Dick" M. Holl, 81, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, his 56th wedding anniversary.
He was born in Reading, PA. on November 5, 1931, the son of Walter and Kathryn Holl. He is a 1949 graduate of Wyomissing High School and received his business administration degree at the University of Nebraska in 1970. He earned his pilot's license at age 15 and dedicated his life to serving our country as a pilot in the U.S. Army. He proudly served 1 tour of duty in Korea and 2 tours in Vietnam. Highly decorated as an airman and soldier, his recognitions include the Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Air Medal and earned status of Master Aviator. He retired in 1974 from the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pa. After retirement, he worked many years for the Dayton Walther Corp and for Scott Equipment in Dayton, Ohio .
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joshua Stephenson; niece, Kathryn DeTurck; brother-in-law, Neil Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Marrianne (McGee) Holl; children, John (Jarmilia) Stephenson, Edna Yates Lori (Anthony) Nicely, and Heidi (Tracy) Herron; sister, Dorothy Hill; grandchildren, Marrianne Adams, Brian Nicely, Nathan Nicely, Andrea Herron, Lisa Hollingsworth and Shawn Yates; 9 great grandchildren; 4 nieces and 1 nephew; brother-in-law, Michael McGee.
He will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family and his country.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association.
Memorial service is Tuesday August 27, 2013 at 1pm at Miami Valley Memory Gardens, Centerville, OH.
