Richard Gear, 64, of Dayton, OH, passed away peacefully August 26, 2017 at Kettering Hospital. Richard was born in Dayton, OH, a gift from Santa, on December 25, 1952 to Eugene and Cora (Norris) Gear.
Richard attended Wayne High School and graduated from Xenia High School in 1971. He moved to Denver, Colorado after high school and attended Automotive and Diesel College. As a child, he loved to play little league baseball at Overlook Park, where his friends said "he could really hit a ball". Richard was a long time Denver Broncos fan who loved animals, especially Susie, Trouble and Skitters. He loved people, knew no strangers, and had a zest and love of life. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by three sisters, Linda (Henry) Burge, Sue Gear-Hadder and Donna (Steven) Dahlinghaus; special sisters Kathy Flayler and Julie Hansen; two nieces, Kelly (Rob) Blank and Sherry Troutwine; nephew, Ronald Armitage, Jr., Rick's special angel Martina Caldwell and numerous other great nieces and nephews, family and friends. Also surviving are special friends Dan and Tammy Skinner, Dave, Gary Ely and John Mamula. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
The family would again like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Martina for her love, care and for being Rick's best friend and angel.
Also a special thanks to Grace Hospice and Rick's nurse Bridget Hasty, RN, for her care and support and to Father Satish Joseph for attending to Rick spiritually on many occasions.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, OH 45424. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery, Brookville, OH, where he will be laid to rest next to his mother Cora.
