Richard J. DeLong, age 74, of Dayton passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024 in the care of hospice at The Village at the Greene in Beavercreek, Ohio. He was born in Dayton on July 28, 1950 to his late mother, Dinah Henry and step-father, George R. Henry. In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his brother, David DeLong of Deltona, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sandra; children, Christine J. DeLong, Christopher M. DeLong, Jeremy M. DeLong; step-children, Deborah (Thomas) Gnau, Timothy Perkins; grandchildren, Danielle DeLong, Madelyn DeLong, Melinda Gnau, Margaret Gnau, Thomas Gnau, Mathew Perkins, Thomas Perkins and step-brother, John Henry; along with many other family and friends.
Richard served in the Marine Corps in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. He was honored just prior to his death as a Vietnam Era Veteran during his Pinning Ceremony on July 24, 2024. In his past time, Richard enjoyed solving puzzles, collecting baseball cards, watching the Redskins play and watching movies. He was a dedicated and loving Father. Richard was well loved by those who knew him and will be missed.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Newcomer Kettering, 3940 Kettering Blvd. A graveside service with full military honors will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Dayton National Cemetery, 440 W. Third Street. Pastor Jamie Vannoy to officiate.
