Richard Lee Adams

November 26, 1942 — April 10, 2023

Richard Lee Adams "Rich," age 80 of Miamisburg passed away Monday, April 10, 2023 at Sycamorespring Nursing and Rehab. He was born November 26, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana the son of Robert and Kathryn Adams.

He is preceded in death by parents Robert and Kathryn Adams, brother Ramon Adams and infant sister Mary Adams.

Rich is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years Nina (Tuley) Adams, son Todd (Kimberly) Adams, daughter Lynn (Michael) Webb, granddaughter Katie (Brock) Hines, grandson Brandon (Gabrielle) Webb, granddaughter Emily (Curtis) Magee, grandson Tyler Webb, great-granddaughter Cecily Magee, and great-grandson Kenneth Hines; sister, Sylvia Jean (Gordon) Trulock and sister-in-law, Mildred Joan Adams. In addition to many nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Far Hills Church for over 30 years where he served as choir member, audio technician, and security. Rich graduated from Chrisney High School and then attended Perdue University and Evansville University. His heart remained with Perdue where he was a member of the Perdue Marching Band. While there he had the honor of carrying on, as he said, "wearing" Big Bertha, the worlds largest sousaphone.

As an adult he began work at Whirlpool Corp. and from there he went to NCR, where he worked for 25 years as a systems analyst. His employment moved his family from Indiana to Georgia then to North Carolina, and finally to Ohio where they remained for forty-six years. After leaving NCR, Rich together with son Todd, began one of the first internet companies in the Dayton area. It was known as Dayton Internet.

For years he was a member of the Mount Amateur Radio Association with the call letters of W8MFD. This interest began as a young boy in Chrisney as he went all over the neighborhood asking for old broken radios and parts and then built his first ham radio. He earned his first license at the young age of 12. This hobby led to an interest in all electronics and later computers. Many of which he built himself.

He and his wife Nina had a great interest in history so most of their vacations were to historical sites.

Rich in his later years was an avid reader and read an assortment of books, especially about World War II, but also some science fiction as well. The fascination with World War II was probably because he was proud of the contributions of his dad and Uncle Carl in that war. When Rich could no longer read due to Parkinsons his wife Nina read the books to him, which was special to both of them.

As a boy he loved airplanes and that led him to get a private pilot license at age 24. In fact, as a pilot he took his wife Nina on her very first plane ride. She was a trusting soul.

Rich enjoyed being a dad but being a grandpa to his four grandchildren was where he really shined. In fact, he enjoyed anything they did. He delighted in their dancing and piano recitals, soccer, baseball and basketball games, concerts and plays. You name it - he was there beaming proudly.

He also loved the sport of baseball and played on an American Legion team in high school which won honors. When he moved to Miamisburg he became an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and watched most of their games - win or lose.

As Parkinson's took over more and more of his life he became such a fan of Michael J. Fox. He read all of his books and learned more from him than he ever did from doctors. The Michael J. Fox Foundation has raised billions of dollars for research and has educated so many people about this terrible disease. Rich not only read his books but encouraged others to do the same.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Richard's memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Rich was a quiet man of Godly character, who led by example. His faith ran deep. He loved God and family and was kind to everyone. His family loved him and will miss him but they know he is now in a better place free of pain.
