Richard Allen Strong, Major, USAF (Retired), 82, of Huber Heights, Ohio, died March 17, 2013. He was born April 11, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Leo and Jane (Cleveland) Strong.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Rosa (Amaya) Strong; sons Harold Strong of Dayton, Ohio, Edward Strong of Houston, Texas, Randall Strong of Huber Heights, Ohio; daughter Marisa Strong of Piedmont, California, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harold, sister Leona and grandson Brandon.
He was a 1948 graduate of Western High School in Detroit, Michigan, received his B.S. from the University of Michigan in 1964, and his M.S. from Central Michigan University in 1974. During his tour of duty in Thailand, he was awarded the Silver Star, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, and Two Air Medals. He designed a flying car and built several mockups of the design. He was a member of Mensa, the order of the Daedalians and various professional societies. Richard retired as a Major in the United States Air Force after 26 years of service to his country and 16 years as a civil service aerospace engineer.
