Reverend Rickeyl. Groce

The Reverend Rickey L. Groce was born to Ms. Julia Jewel Groce and Mr. Fred Moon in Talladega, Alabama on February 21, 1953

Rick (as he was affectionately known) lived in Talladega, Alabama until age 9 and then relocated to Dayton, Ohio where he was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in 1971.

Rick met the love of his life in high school and was blessed to have 49 years of marriage to his Wife, Mrs. Juanita Thomas Groce. To this union was born three lovely daughters, Nicole Latresse, Jarnatta Lanett and Rickeeta Denise.

After High School Rick went on to get training in the Car Detail Industry where he worked for many years. Rick also worked as a Car Salesman and in Security.

He accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior and Lord in his 20's and obtained his Masters of Theology in 1983. Rick was a Licensed and Ordained Minister in the Church of God (Anderson, Indiana). He was Assistant Pastor under the late Rev. Robert Simpson at Southside First Church of God in Dayton, OH for two years. Rev. Groce Pastored Catherine Street Church of God in Springfield, OH for 7 years and then went on to start and Pastor New Jerusalem Church of God in Dayton, OH for 13 years.

Rick retired from (Beau Townsend Lincoln in Vandalia, OH) and had been in the work force for 50 years prior to retirement. He began working as a teenager and worked in various capacities.

Rick was preceded in death by his Dad, Fred Moon, Beloved Daughter, Jarnatta Groce; Grandsons, Matthew Turner and Nico Elam; Great Granddaughter, Trinity Elam; Brother, Anthony Moon; Sister, Carol Pace; and First Cousin & Best Friend, Bobby Groce.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Mrs. Juanita Groce, Eldest Daughter, Nicole Taste; Baby Daughter, Rickeeta Groce; Grandsons, Andre Rogers, Jala'Mar Boyd, Michael Andrews and Chris Elam; Great Grandsons, Tai'rese Elam and K. D. Andrews; Mother, Reverend Julia J. Groce White; Beloved Mother-In-Law, Mamie Thomas-Hunter; Step-Mother, Viola Hall; Siblings, Phyllis Washington and Pamela Jones, of Detroit, MI, Sheila Santiago, of Dayton, OH and Robin (Quentin) Walls, of Pickerington, OH; Best Friend, Louis Carr; and a host of Aunts, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 5-7pm at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH 45424. The service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 11am at the funeral home.

Rick will be laid to rest at West Memory Gardens in Moraine, OH.
