Rev. Robert M. Rutan (Col., USAF, Ret.)
Age 93, of Dayton, passed away Friday, December 14, 2007, at Friendship Village where he had resided for the past several years.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice J. (nee, Jordan) Rutan in 2002.
He is survived by his wife of the past two years, Marion (Muse) Rutan; one daughter, Dawn (& her husband, Patrick) Spangler; two grandchildren, Sean and Allison Spangler; one sister, Evelyn Blume.
Bob was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and very active in the Homebuilders Sunday School class. Other memberships and activities include: the Northern New Jersey Conference of the United Methodist Church, former member of the Fairborn Rotary Club; Retired Officers Association and the 7th Armored Division Association. He retired in 1969 from the United States Air Force as a Chaplain with the rank of Colonel after 21 years of service. His service in the Air Force included the periods of WW II, Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force he worked as a Development Officer for Waynesburg College in Waynesville, PA. He then went on to serve in several United Methodist Churches in the Dayton area.
Memorial services will be held in the Convocation Room of Friendship Village, 5790 Denlinger Road, Trotwood at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, with Pastors Marla Brown and David Snowdon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in memory of Bob to either the Friendship Village Memorial Fund or the Grace United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
Bob will be remembered by scores of people as one who generously gave of himself to other.
