Rev. Dr. Jimmy D. McPherson, age 74 of Kettering, OH went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 17, 2021. He was born April 4, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky to Sonny James and Genevieve (Scott) McPherson. Jimmy married Kaye Prosser on July 19, 1969 in Dayton, OH.
Rev. McPherson began his ministry at the age of 23 as Minister of Music in Kannapolis, NC. From there he served three years as the Program Director at the Church of God Home for Children in Concord, NC. Rev. McPherson then became the Music Minister at Princeton Pike Church of God in Hamilton, OH. In 1976 he served as the Associate Pastor to Rev. L.O. Prosser, at the East 4th Street Church of God. In 1985 he became Pastor of the Oak Creek Worship Center (later the Oak Creek Church) where he served until his passing. During his 37 year tenure as Pastor, over 30 full time Ministries were birthed out of his Pastoral Leadership at Oak Creek; the latest being the Naioth, Congolese Church of God in Kettering, OH. Rev. McPherson served on every elected board in the Church of God in Southern Ohio. Additionally, he served the Kettering Police Department as Chaplain for over 15 years. He founded the National Association of Chaplaincy in the Greater Dayton Area. Rev. McPherson was an accomplished musician and songwriter. Alongside his ministry, he was a full time owner/operater of a Nursing Home/Assisted Living Facility for 30 years.
Rev. McPherson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kaye; two daughters, Deborah (Brian) Gibboney and Jennifer (Scott) Fussnecker; six grandchildren, Cory McPherson, Claudia (Tyler) Zimmerman, Owen Gibboney, Scotty Fussnecker, Madilyn Fussnecker and Drew Gibboney; a great grandson, Tyler Francis "Smiley" Zimmerman; a sister, Janet Haspert; and numerous family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Burial to follow the service at Heritage Hills Memory Gardens, Springboro, OH.
