Rev. W. Loveless

August 30, 1933 — April 8, 2022

Reverend Charles W. Loveless

Chuck Loveless died on April 8, 2022 at the age of eighty-eight. He is survived by his beloved wife Jean (Rembold) Loveless and their four children, Cindy Cary, Rick Loveless (Debbie), Brad Loveless (Mindy) and Bill Loveless (Susan).

He was born in Oil City, PA on August 30, 1933 to Harold Leroy Loveless and Clara Mae (Kahle) Loveless. His father was a minister, pastoring many churches throughout western PA. Chuck graduated from Rocky Grove High School in 1951. On August 15, 1953 he married Jean L. Rembold. Jean supported Chuck and the family by working as a nurse while he obtained his degree at Albright College, graduating in 1955. Because Albright closed their theological school, they chose to move to Dayton, OH so he could attend United Theological Seminary, graduating in 1958 with his Masters in Divinity.

The Loveless family enjoyed special years of pastoral postings in wonderful congregations at Oak Street (Dayton), Clayton (Clayton/Dayton), Zion (Cleves/Cincinnati), and finally Church of the Cross (Kettering/Dayton). For the balance of his career, he held administrative roles: Coordinator/Registrar of the Section on Ordained Ministry, District Superintendent, and Assistant to Bishops Edsel Ammons and Judy Craig. He retired in 1998, but then served as an interim District Superintendent.

Chuck was active in developing interfaith community relations, was passionate about civil rights, women's rights and gender rights. When Dayton was losing state services for mental health care, he was instrumental in developing community-based mental health services for the Dayton area. He was a Trustee for Wesley Glen Health Care Facility, United Theological Seminary and Lakeside Association as well as being on the Board of Ohio Health.

Jean and Chuck built an amazing family unit, beginning with their four children. Chuck was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren Ryan Larkin, Jake Loveless (Emmie), Kahle Loveless (Bridget), Kate Gerber (Andrew), Mike Loveless, and seven great-grandchildren Corinne Bruce, Lincoln Loveless, Landon Loveless, Anna Jean Gerber, Brandt Geber, Elliott Loveless and Bennett Gerber.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and brother in-law, Ron Sell. He is survived by his younger siblings, Richard Loveless (Susan) and Nancy Sell.
