Reuben Cephas Meeks, Jr. (W8GUC), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 3, 2024, at his home, in Huber Heights, Ohio. He was surrounded by his loving family and cherished dogs during his final moments. He was preceded in death by his parents: Reuben Cephas Meeks Sr and Henrietta Meeks.
Born on February 27, 1941, in Bakersfield, California, Reuben led a fulfilling life marked by dedication to his work and a deep love for his family. For more than 25 years, he served an Electrical Engineer and Civil Servant at WPAFB before transitioning to roles at Select Tech, Trimble, Channel 7, and Hollywood Gaming. Despite the demands of his career, Reuben found joy in connecting with others through his hobbies and interests.
Reuben was known for his infectious happiness and warm personality. Always ready with a smile or a good joke, he laughed easily and had a genuine love for everyone he encountered. Those who knew him well remember him as someone who never harbored any ill will towards others-a man with a heart of gold.
One of Reuben's greatest passions outside of work was his involvement as a HAM Radio Operator for an impressive 59 years. He was a dedicated member of DARA and MARS, where he forged lasting connections within the community. He also had his private pilot's license and enjoyed his time in the air.
Above all else, Reuben treasured his family. His proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly his devotion to his wife of 36 years, Bonita Meeks. Despite experiencing the loss of his son Reuben Cephas Meeks III before him, Reuben's love for his children shone brightly throughout his life. Recently blessed with a great-granddaughter named Shiloh, who was born 9 weeks early, Reuben's awe and tenderness towards her were unmatched. He prayed fervently for her well-being and held her tiny form in hands that had seen so much love. During his last days, the most special moment was when Reuben was able to dedicate Shiloh to the Lord.
Reuben is survived by his devoted wife Bonita Meeks; seven children; numerous grandchildren; caring brothers and sisters; beloved nieces and nephews; as well as a multitude of other relatives and friends who will carry fond memories of him in their hearts.
In the quiet moments following Reuben's passing from this world to the next, those who loved him find solace in knowing that he touched countless lives with kindness and compassion. His legacy of laughter, love for family, and unwavering positivity will be remembered always-a light that continues to shine even in the midst of sorrow.
While Reuben was living, his family held a private service with him to honor his life and to let him know what he meant to them. Brother-in-law, Pastor Curtis Holland officiated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road.
