Rennes F. Bowers, Jr., 87, of 4061 Arrowhead Trail, Enon, died at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.
Born December 8, 1922, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he was the son of Rennes Bowers, Sr. and Helen Mundorff, and the oldest of eight children.
He attended Shippensburg State Teachers College, apprenticed and became a Certified Master Watch and Clock Maker with the Horological Institute of America, worked on the Pennsylvania Turnpike building tunnels, served in the Army Air Force where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, attended Officers Candidate School at Yale University, served in the Pacific Theater where he used his watch making skills calibrating bomb sites on bombers.
Married Wilma June Richards from Hayes Center, Nebraska on May 21, 1946. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends.
Rennes and Wilma operated the Bowers Jewelry and Gift Shop in Indianapolis, Indiana, from 1950-1960. He then became a Computer Programmer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, retiring in 1984 as a Systems Analyst. He was a purveyor of antiques, fine watches and grandfather clocks. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Cumberland Valley 315 Lodge becoming a Master Mason in September, 1944. He loved to garden and was a self taught artist and produced many oil paintings.
Rennes and Wilma placed their faith in Jesus Christ their Savior in 1978 and were baptized at the Kemp Road Baptist Church.
He is survived by 3 children, Sharron, Rennes III and Rebecca, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 brother, James, and 3 sisters, Beverly, Phyllis and Dorothy.
A Memorial Service is being held on November 5, 2010, at APEX Community Church located at 5200 Far Hills Avenue, Kettering, OH. The family will receive guests from 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm and the service will follow from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
