Reiko Cannon

June 16, 1931 — April 12, 2013

Reiko Cannon, 81, Dayton, Ohio passed away unexpected on April 12, 2013. Her death was quick as she expressed it should be, and one that did not cause others to have to care for her through a long illness.

She came from Japan as a young bride in the 1950s, and became a resident of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buel Cannon, and her daughter, Grace Crim. At the time of her passing she was a sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her two sisters, Kyoko Shibata and Yuko Shibata, her 2 daughters Marjorie Miller-Ackerman and Barbara Robinson, her son Andrew Knutson, her grandchildren Latisha Robinson-Paredes, Stephanie Robinson, Randy Knutson, Kenneth Crim, Gareth Crim and Andrea Crim. She also left behind several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, along with many who considered her a sister, friend and "mama."

During her life she served as a leader and later as a general member in SGI-USA and introduced many people to Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism. Reiko was retired from WPAFB Officers' Club where those she encountered had witnessed her fire and strengths.

In her retirement she focused her attention on her gardens, and spent many hours tending her flowers. She could be seen walking the dogs while singing Japanese songs from her youth to encourage them in all types of weather because "they enjoy it."

Her other passions were her weekly trips to the casino to hit "the big one" and telling her family how to live their lives. Throughout her life she inspired and helped those who she came in contact with and never finding herself at a loss for words. She lived her life with much vigor, and always said "dynamite comes in small packages" as an expression to others that she was a force to reckon with if you made her mad.

Visitation for Reiko will be held at Newcomers Beavercreek on Friday, April 19th from 4-6, with services starting immediately afterwards.
