Raymond Yenger, age 67, of Kettering, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2023, at The Hospice of Dayton. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary, and his older brother, Robert. He is survived by his daughter, Samantha (Aaron), who is the light and love of his life; his sister Deborah (Gary), their children Dawn (Rob) and Jacob (Jenny), and their families; his two nephews Robert (Natalie) and David and their families. Additionally, he is survived by special "double cousins" Harry (Sherry) and Nancy (John) and their families; the twins, Jean and Jan, and many, many, other cousins, friends, and family. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for Sherry, Ray's dear cousin, who helped manage his care with unfailing kindness.
Ray was affectionately known as "Uncle Ray" to his many nieces and nephews. He was a kid magnet, and his niece and nephews (and all of his great nieces and nephews) looked forward to a treasured visit over the years from their Uncle Ray. He always arrived at family gatherings bearing gifts: candy, small toys, or Killer Brownies for his nieces and nephews; and cheesecake, pies, or the family favorite - a box of Esther Price Candies - for the adults. Ray was generous to a fault, and always had jokes and stories to tell punctuated by his infectious laugh. Ray truly exemplified the adage "He does not have a mean bone in his body".
Ray maintained many lifelong friendships from his school days at St. Helen and Carroll, where he earned the nickname "Sugary Ray" for his sweet personality that was unmatched. Some of his special childhood friends visited frequently while he was at the hospital, and at Hospice. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Gary, Sandy, Lacey, Joe, Tim, Dave, Dan, Howard, and many others for their visits that were a comfort to Ray. The frequent visits of family, cousins, and lifelong friends helped Ray, his sister Debi, and her husband Gary, through this painful time by reminiscing days gone by with kindness and laughter.
The family expresses deepest gratitude to the staff at The Hospice of Dayton, for being the kindest and bravest people during this difficult time. In the spirit of Ray's lifelong generosity, please consider making a donation to The Hospice of Dayton, or any other charitable organization in his memory.
Memorial service will be held at 6 PM on Wednesday, March 29th, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
