Raymond J. "Ray" Slater, 87, of Beavercreek, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014. He was born May 4, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah A. Slater; his parents, Ralph and Josephine Slater; daughter, Janice Slater; two brothers, Ralph and Richard; three sisters, Rita, Juanita and Mary. Ray was one of the original members of Ascension Parish of Dayton. He served our country during WWII in the U.S. Navy and worked for Sheet Metal Workers Local #24 for 65 years. Ray is survived by his three sons, Dave Slater, Mark (Sharon) Slater, Doug (Denise) Slater; two daughters, Christine (Bill) Arnedo, Cindi (Greg) Marshal; grandchildren, Brian, Forest, Jaime, Stefanie, Beau, Emily and Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Aiden; brother, Joe (Marie) Slater; sister, Carol (Paul) Melia, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd. Beavercreek. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
