Rashidah El-Amin, age 69 of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020 in Massillon, Ohio. She was born August 11, 1950 in Georgetown, Kentucky.
Rashidah El-Amin became a Muslim in 1974. She was a Roosevelt High School graduate of 1968 as well as Sinclair and Wiberforce College. She worked as a massage specialist, photographer as well as a skilled part-time teacher and social worker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Powhatan James and Viola Daniels; daughter Myra Rogers and grandchildren, Kristin Rogers, Xavier Rogers and Markira Topaz Maloney.
Rashidah will be missed by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Iman, Saleem El-Amin; son, Saleem A. El-Amin, II; daughter, Tahira T. El-Amin; daughter, Saniyyah S. El-Amin "Nia Joy Williams"; son, Khurram K. El-Amin; daughter, Lynora Neal; daughter, Melanie Lee; daughter, Beverly Rogers; 23 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Hargrett and Dorothy Heflin both of Florida; brothers, Yusef and Lawrence both of Dayton; cousins, Jim Williams and Shirley Williams both of Dayton; Marvin Eady and Anna Slayton both of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Billy of Atlanta, Georgia, Mark and Tracy of Toledo, Ohio.
Family will receive friends Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services at 1 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton. Burial to follow at West Memory Gardens.
