Ramani Vijayan (62) of 204 Lookout Drive, Oakwood, Ohio, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020, in Columbus, Ohio, USA, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on September 15, 1958, in Seria, Brunei, Ramani was the daughter of late K.G. Abraham and late Annamma Abraham and the youngest of four siblings, one brother and 3 sisters. When she was 10 years old, the family left Brunei and settled in Kozhencherry, Kerala, India (Kuttil Istana, Melukara, Kozhencherry). She belongs to the Kottomannil (Kuttiyil) family in Kozhencherry.
Ramani did her high school education at St. Mary's Girls High School, Kozhencherry, class of 1974, and her Pre-degree at St. Thomas College, Kozhencherry, class of 1976. Ramani received her B. Tech. degree in Electronics and Communications from the University of Kerala (College of Engineering Trivandrum) in 1981, and received her M. Tech. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai in 1989.
Ramani started her career as a lecturer in Electronics and Communications at TKM College of Engineering (University of Kerala), Kollam, Kerala, India in 1981, and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1993. The family moved to Singapore in 1996 and Ramani worked as a lecturer in Computer Science at the Informatics Computer School in Singapore until the family moved to the United States in 2000. She received the Best Teacher of the Year Award in 1999 at the Informatics Computer School. Ramani worked as an adjunct faculty in Computer Science at the Christopher Newport University for a short period and later as adjunct faculty in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. The family moved to Dayton, Ohio in 2010. She had been working as an Adjunct Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Dayton.
Ramani is survived by her husband of 35 years, Dr. Krishnan Asari Vijayan (a.k.a. Dr. Vijayan K. Asari, Professor and Endowed Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio), sons Dr. Vipin Vijayan (PhD, Research Scientist, at Radiance Technologies, Dayton, Ohio), Jithin Vijayan (MA, LPC, Professional Counselor at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania), Dr. Aswin Vijayan (DPT, Physical Therapy Specialist at Orthopedic One, Columbus, Ohio), daughter-in-law Anjali Menon (MA, Family Based Clinician at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), daughter-in-law-to-be Dr. Kinjal Pandya (PhD, Psychology Fellow, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center), and numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Ramani was a kind, selfless, joyful, and memorable person who left a lasting impression on all those who met her. Ramani enjoyed reading novels, traveling, and her life at home. Ramani left an immensely positive impact on all those who knew her, including family, friends, colleagues and students spread around the world.
The funeral services with viewing was conducted on Sunday, October 25, 2020, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm EST (7:30 pm to 10:30 pm IST) at Newcomer Kettering Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd, Dayton, Ohio).
