MCCUMBER, Ralph David, died on Thursday, November 23, 2017, in Beavercreek, Ohio. A graveside service of thanksgiving for Dave's life will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Beaver Union Cemetery, Beaver, Ohio; followed by a time of fellowship and remembering with family and friends in Jackson, Ohio.
Dave was born on June 26, 1938, in Jackson, Ohio to Ralph and Ethel McCumber. The oldest of three children, he attended school in Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School in 1956. He cherished his classmates from Jackson and enjoyed attending reunions and get-together's throughout his life. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Jackson.
Dave served our country in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. After returning home from service, he went back to work for Davis Firebrick Company. He spent most of his career working in the fire brick industry in many locations - Jackson, Ohio; Mexico, Missouri; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Chicago, Illinois, rising to the level of plant manager and ultimately to corporate manager of safety and environment at A.P. Green headquartered in Mexico, Missouri. He retired from A.P. Green in 1998 and continued working as a safety and environmental regulation consultant for many years.
Dave married Beverly Jo Crabtree McCumber in 1956. They had one son, David Eric McCumber, the pride and joy of Dave's life. Dave and Jo were married until her death in 2002. Dave married Eunice Adrian McCumber in 2003 and enjoyed many years of companionship with her during his retirement years, becoming part of her family and community in Beavercreek, Ohio.
Dave is survived by his wife, Eunice; his special step-daughter, Connie Sue Copley; son, David Eric and daughter-in-law, Jenny; three grandsons, William David, Michael Jeffery, and Andrew Edward. He is also survived by his sister, Dolores; nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren; and many, many friends, including the Wiggins family, the Wilbers family, and the Michael family.
Dave knew no strangers and will be remembered by all for his love of visiting with people and getting to know them, his ability to tell a great story, his many acts of kindness, and for being a man of great faith.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kirkmont Presbyterian Church in Beavercreek, Ohio.
