Ralph Goodwin

Ralph Goodwin, 96, of Beavercreek, OH, passed away January 12, 2019, at Village at the Greene. He was born on December 23, 1922 in East Liverpool, OH to Frank and Verna (Burbick) Goodwin. Ralph married Bettie Jane Evans on September 3, 1948 in Richmond, Indiana.

Ralph proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II (1940 to 1945), and was a Pearl Harbor and Battle of Midway Survivor. He served throughout the Pacific Theater as a Radioman 2/C on several ships including the USS Yorktown, the USS Enterprise and the USS Wren. Ralph was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene and he and his wife Bettie read the Bible completely 25 times during their lives. He retired from Sun Oil Company after 35 years of driving a gasoline tank truck. His hobbies included bowling, riding his bike and walking.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Verna (Burbick) Goodwin; his wife of 69 years, Bettie Jane (Evans) Goodwin; a son, Frank S. Goodwin; and two sisters, Dorothy Durbin and Viola Barton. He is survived by a son, Ralph and Alice Goodwin; three daughters; Suzanne Kostenko, Janet and David Stoughton, and Ruthie and Eric Bowser; a daughter in law, Toni Goodwin; nine grandchildren, Frank (Alma) Kostenko, Annette Kostenko, Randy (Kelli) Goodwin, Steven (Jeni) Goodwin, Josh Hyder, Elaine (David) Cox, Mary Stoughton, Andrew, Matthew and Timothy Bowser; eight great grandchildren, Jake Kostenko, Jonathan, Nathan, Franklin and Brendan Kostenko, Chloe, Sophie and Colby Goodwin; two nieces, Beverly Cleckner and Judy Smith; and other family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 18th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 3380 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, OH 45432. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Park Cemetery, Beavercreek, OH.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to Hospice of Dayton (Ohio's Hospice), 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
