R. Edwin Alexander II, age 68, of Dayton, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009 at the VA Medical Center. He was born October 29, 1940. Ed was preceded in death by his father, R. Edwin Alexander Sr.; mother, Virginia Alexander Eckhardt; step-father, Charles F. Eckhardt and sister, Mary Catherine Lyon. He is survived by his children, Christine M. (D.J.) Pack, Charlene A. Alexander, and R. Edwin (Laura) Alexander III; mother of their 3 children and devoted friend, CeCe Alexander Sugar; grandchildren, Aaron D. and Alexander B. Pack and Lydia M. Alexander; brother, Thomas R. (Donita) Alexander; sisters, Martha V. (Joseph) Greenwood, Jeanne (Tony-dec.) Costa, Carolyn (John) Miller, Mary (David) Gilmer; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Ed was born and raised in Dayton Ohio. He attended Chaminade H.S., where he was Valedictorian and President of the class of 1958. He graduated Cum Lade from the University of Dayton and was Senior Class President of the class of 1962. He served as an officer in the US Army and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany from 1963-1966. He was employed by the Central Printing Company for over 30 years. Ed was nicknamed "Easy Ed" for his easy-going, pleasant personality, sense of humor, and love of all people. He was an accomplished golfer and a long time member of the Sugar Valley C.C. He loved traveling, writing, going to festivals, and spending time with his family and adoring grandchildren who referred to him as "Baw Paw". The family will receive friends Friday, March 13, 2009 from 5-8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home Kettering Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439). A mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, March, 14, 2009 at 10 am at Incarnation Church (55 Williamsburg Lane, Centerville, OH 45459). Burial will follow at Centerville Cemetery.
