Prudence Jane Bair

Prudence (Harwood) Bair passed away October 21, at the age of 80. She was born in Melrose, Massachusetts December 11, 1929 to a family woven throughout New England history and going back to the very first English settlers. An accomplished pianist she studied Music and Art History at Oberlin College, where she met her future husband Raymond, whom she married in 1951. They lived in Berkley, California; Seattle, Washington; and Mercersburg, Pennsylvania before settling in Oakwood, Ohio in 1966. After raising her children, she began working at Harman Elementary School in Oakwood where she remained for many years as a much loved 6th grade teacher. A genial woman, she enjoyed both intellectual pursuits as well as the simple pleasures: cooking, gardening, antiques and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents Ralph Harwood, and Florence (Kreger), her sisters Patricia and Priscilla, her brother, Peter, and a great-grandson. She is survived by her children: Eric (Summer) of Miamisburg, Ohio; Ed (Linda) of Atlanta, Georgia; Elizabeth (Mark) Cornillie of Grosse Pointe, Michigan; and Richard (Ann) of Upper Arlington, Ohio, along with 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on November 20 at 10 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Oakwood Schools Education Foundation www.oakwood.k12.oh.us or the Alzheimer's Association.
