Carrington, Phyllis W., age 86, of Greenville, Ohio, formerly of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away October 15, 2015 at Brethren Retirement Community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Lenna (Wiseman) Woolum of southern Ohio, her brothers, Herman and Donald Woolum, sisters, Georgia Hale and Ruth Woolum all of southern Ohio. She was also preceded by her husband, Hubert Franklin Carrington of Blackfork, Ohio.
Phyllis was born August 10, 1929 in Waterloo, OH. She graduated from Waterloo High School with honors in 1947. She worked in various employments throughout the years including Elder Beerman, Hobart, and was also a licensed real estate broker working in the Dayton area.
She was a member of Aldersgate Methodist Church in Huber Heights for many years and became a member of EUM Methodist Church after moving to Greenville, Ohio. Phyllis was a member of the Senior Citizens of Huber Heights, and a member of the Daughters of American Revolution. She volunteered at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio as well as tutoring disadvantaged children and adults in literacy. Phyllis and Kermit Hicks earned gold medals in the Dayton area Senior Olympics table tennis mixed doubles in 2009. Phyllis enjoyed line dancing, and she walked 5 miles almost every day when living in Huber Heights.
She is survived by 1 son, Tom Carrington and wife Dee of Greenville, Ohio; 2 daughters, Judy C. Carrington of The Colony, Texas, and Janet Carrington Morrow and husband, Cary of Phoenix, AZ; 7 grandchildren, Mandy Carrington Swisher, Chris and Mike Carrington, Michelle Jones Wood, Matt Jones, Cary Royce and Anna Morrow; and numerous great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or to Alzheimers Research in Phyllis' memory.
