In Loving Memory of
Phyllis B. Banas
1930-2020
Phyllis Barbara Banas was called home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ and to be reunited with her beloved husband, John Conrad Banas, on April 22, 2020.
Phyllis was born January 15, 1930 in Buffalo, NY to Aloysius J. and Genevieve R. Mazurowski.
Phyllis and John were married August 25, 1951, and shortly after began their life's work of raising eight children. When the youngest of the children reached her teens, Phyllis was able to attend college to become a nurse. In their later years, Phyllis and John enjoyed travel to the American Southwest, where they lived for a time, as well as a journey to their ancestral home of Poland. They also enjoyed over twenty years of hosting the Banas Family Reunion at Center Hill Lake, TN, a treasured gift to their growing family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Although she might not admit to it, Phyllis was also an artist at heart. She played piano, sang beautifully, and created lovely cross-stitch work until her eyes could no longer see the tiny stitches. She enjoyed helping others as a volunteer for her church and community, including reading to elementary children in an after school program and caring for hospice patients.
Above all, Phyllis was devoted to her husband, John, to her family and to her faith.
Phyllis was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved them very much. We will all miss her, but we are thankful for so many beautiful and precious memories as well as the laughter we have shared.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John. She leaves behind eight children: Charmaine Boggs (Bruce), Kathleen Coleman (Jay), Timothy Banas, Michael Banas (Marcia), Paul Banas, Maria Padgett, Rosanne Bohannon (Wayne), and Amy Mechling (Dave), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at Newcomer Centerville Chapel, Dayton, OH.
Phyllis will be interred at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard, NC.
