Philip "Phil" A. Smith, 62 years old, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 30, 2017 of medical complications at Soin Medical Center. He was born on February 17, 1955 in Wilmington, Ohio. The son of Richard Smith and Mary Hughes. He married his wife, the love of his life, Nancy Smith (Stephenson) on July 27, 1996 just celebrating 22 years of marriage.
Phil was an avid Bengals fan, he loved to tune into the trading post for the latest deals and absolutely loved his dogs. He was a strong man with a big heart, a gentle giant and he will be missed dearly.
He was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He is survived by his 3 children, son, Chad Smith and two daughters, Charity Smith and Candace (Ernie) Hanselman; father, Richard; sister, Susan (Greg) Yates; brother, David Cramton; 2 step children, Shaun and Leah Eick. Phil is a papaw to 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, as well as loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends. He was also the best daddy to 2 fur babies, Sugar and Maynard.
Phil was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Hughes; sisters, Pam Sweeney and Nancy Smith as well as his other 2 fur babies, Max and Scooby.

Family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd. A funeral service will begin at 1 PM on Thursday, October 5 at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, Vandalia, OH.
