Paula Boehm, age 92, of Dayton, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, February 18, 2024. She was born in Limbach, Slovakia, on July 21, 1931, the daughter of Elisabeth and Samuel.
She had a storied life, fleeing with her family from the Russian Invasion of Slovakia and becoming refugees in Austria during WWII. Following the war, she and her family were relocated to Germany. Her future husband, Michael Boehm, also born in the village of Limbach, had immigrated to the USA in 1949 and several years later, she began writing to him while she was in Germany. In 1955, Paula immigrated to the USA, and the following year Michael and Paula were married.
Paula was a seamstress by trade and a homemaker. She was very active in her church (Hillside Chapel) and served as trustee and treasurer of District 815 of the Greater Beneficial Union of Pittsburgh. She enjoyed reading, baking, cooking and working outside in her garden and yard. She even enjoyed shoveling snow.
Paula is preceded in death by her husband, Michael; parents, Elisabeth and Samuel; and sister, Elisabeth.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Ava and Steve, Monika and Jim, & Jane and Mark; grandchildren, James (Kristy), Nichole (Jason), Joshua (Claire), Carrie (Mike), Stefanie (Andy), Michael (Lisa), Melissa, Samuel, Markus, Elisabeth, Lydia (David), and Jeremiah; great grandchildren, Kalei, Jessielynn (Matt), Chandler, Jilyan, Kiera, Lily, Luna, Mina, Aubrey, Andrew, Blake and Savannah; great great grandchildren, Xavier, Malaki, and Charlie; and beloved nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, (11am Visitation with family/12pm Service) at Hillside Chapel, 3515 Shakertown Road, Beavercreek, OH 45430. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paula's memory to Hillside Chapel or Hospice of Dayton (many thanks to Dr. Cleanne Cass, Jackie RN, Rocky PCS, her care team and the on-call staff, as well as Kettering Home Care). A luncheon will be served following the service at Hillside Chapel.
Paula's favorite verse of the Bible was the 73rd Psalm, verses 25-28 (New Living Translation):
"Whom have I in heaven but You?
I desire You more than anything on earth.
My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak,
but God remains the strength of my heart;
He is mine forever.
Those who desert Him will perish,
for You destroy those who abandon You.
But as for me, how good it is to be near God!
I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter,
and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things You do."
