Paul Gene Armentrout, age 83 of New Carlisle, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on April 6, 2018. Paul was born in Lima, Ohio on April 21, 1934 to Dorothy and Gerald Armentrout. Paul graduated from Stivers-Patterson High School. After he graduated he went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After his service, Paul came home and married his sweetheart, Shirley Jean Berry. During his deployment, Paul and Shirley were pen-pals and this began their 67 year romance.
Paul went on to work as a mechanic for Dayton Power and Light. He retired after 41 years of loyal service. Paul was a lifelong Mason and a member of Lodge #143 of West Union, Ohio. Paul was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. One of Paul and Shirley's favorite hobbies was square dancing. They loved to dance and competed in almost every state. He took great pride in his family. Paul was a loving, caring, and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him.
Paul was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Eileen Phillips; parents, Gerald and Dorothy Armentrout; brother, Jack Armentrout; sisters, Patricia Ray and Shirley Conway.
Paul leaves to cherish his memory, loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Jean Armentrout; children, Rebecca Jean (Dennis Roy) Richey, Milton Phillips, David (Barb) Armentrout, and Laurie (David) Shade; grandchildren, Angela (Matt) Towner, Bradley (Jamey) Ryles, Zachary (Shyra) Phillips, Tori (Brett) Jenkins, Joshua (Ashley) Kerns, Megan (Ryan) Armentrout, Chad (Samantha) Kerns, Delainey Armentrout, Hunter Armentrout, Dakota Shade, Tyee Shade, and Logan Shade; great-grandchildren, Ayden McBride, Emma Ryles, Conner Ryles, Hayden Armentrout, Conner Jenkins, Everly Jenkins, Scarlett Kerns, Olive Kerns, and Ella Kerns; and many other loving relatives and friends.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 5pm - 7pm at Newcomer - North Chapel (4104 Needmore Rd. Dayton, Ohio). A memorial service will take place the next day, Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1:30pm. Urn burial and Naval honors to be held at Mt. Zion Shoup Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's memory to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton.
