Patricia Bay (Gardner) Carlson, age 85, of Kettering, passed away August 18, 2014 after a short bout with colon cancer.

Pat was born June 14, 1929 in Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Charles & Gertrude Gardner, Sisters & brothers-in-law JoAnn & Jere Dodge and Lois & Richard Rengel, Nephew Jere Dodge Jr, Husband, Donald (1926-1983).Pat is survived by her 4 children, Beth Phillips (Jack), Donna Aikins (Ronald), Chuck Carlson (Toni), Jeffrey Carlson (Diane) and (6) grandchildren, Kristi Ingalls & Michael Ingalls (Lizzy), Alyson Hanson (Bjorn), Rachel, Ryan & Kailey Carlson and (4) great-grandsons, Randy Perry, Brennan & Tyler Ingalls, Harris Hanson, Brother-in-law George Carlson (Joan), 9 Nieces and Nephews: Chris, Kitty, Lori (Dodge family), Rick, Annie, Margaret, Charlie (Rengel family) Steven & Grant (Carlson family).

She was a 1947 graduate of Hyde Park H.S. in Chicago and attended Northwestern Univ. and Knox College (PhiMu). The family moved from Oak Park, IL to Ohio in 1968. She worked for the Kettering Rec Center for 13 years; teaching swimming to hundreds of students, as a life guard, then managing Polen Farm. She spent 3 summers at DCC managing the pool and teaching swimming. Through the Red Cross; she taught CPR and trained and certified dozens of local lifeguards. In 1986, Pat joined the Peace Corps and spent a year in Botswana, Africa. For over 40 years, she was an active volunteer for the City of Kettering and in the schools as a reading tutor. Pat was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and was involved with numerous area women's groups. Pat has been a resident of St. Leonard's for over 3 years. The family would like to offer sincere appreciation to the staff for their wonderful care. We would also like to thank Hospice who was by her side in the last week of life. She will be greatly missed.

A private service will be held by the family.
