Orie "Smitty" Smith

Orie "Smitty" Smith, age 75 of Dayton, departed this life on Sunday, May 14, 2017. He was born December 2, 1941 in Stinnett, Kentucky, the son of the late Pearl and Oma Smith. He retired as a heavy equipment operator in Moraine, OH, but was considered by those who knew him as a "jack of all trades". If a person was in need, he was the first person to offer a hand. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed spending time with friends while seeing live bluegrass performances. Most importantly, he enjoyed time with his family. Orie also served his country in the United States Air Force.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Hobert, Dalton & Thomas; brothers-in-law, Bonnell Napier & Raymond Simpson; sisters-in-law, Ila Jean Smith, & Kathleen Smith.

Orie is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ruby Moore-Smith; children, Donna (Rick) Dixon, Jeff (Penny) Smith, Star Page (Jason Clark); step-children, Jerry (Linda) Moore, Patricia (Ken) Howard, Robert Moore; brothers, Clarence (Delores) Smith, Evert (Annette) Smith, Ernest (Ann) Smith; sisters, Faye Napier, Norma Simpson, Jacqueline (Haywood) Gilbert, Idella (Glyn) Hubbard; grandchildren, Danielle (Brandon) Morgan, Judith (Nick) Morgan, Alvin James Smith, Katelyn Louise Smith, Joshua Page, Tristan Page, Madalyn Page, Sammy Page, Madison Clark, Angela Moore, Melissa (Brian) Bryant, Jason Howard, Charlotte Fuchs, Babette Cooper, Robyn Moore-Newberry, Ben Moore; great-grandchildren, Preston Morgan, Elijah Morgan, Emmett Morgan, Cody Bryant, Cain Bryant, Nalynn Bryant, Taryn Cooper, Maddy Cooper, Jeremy Moore, Abigail Moore, Ben Moore Jr. Samantha Newberry, and Charlie Newberry. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 2 pm to 4 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - North Chapel (4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45424). Funeral service will follow at 4 pm.
