Ora Simpson, (retired Air Force Colonel) of Beavercreek, OH, passed away Sunday, March 18, at the age of 85. He was born in Cincinnati, OH and was a graduate of Hughes High School, the University of Cincinnati and received his Master's in Finance and Administration from the Ohio State University. After a 27-year distinguished Air Force career with numerous awards and medals, Ora retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base in 1983 and he and his wife, Joyce, made Beavercreek their home. While at Wright Patterson he was Director of Contracts for two major programs - the A-10 and Electronic Warfare. During his career he served at the Pentagon and in several overseas assignments including Viet Nam and two tours in England.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, he managed the Purchasing Department at The Mound and later was employed by Voss Toyota in Beavercreek. His many friends treasured Ora for his gentleness, kindness and humor. Ora enjoyed playing golf, bridge, celebrating holidays with long-time friends and conversations with his breakfast and gym buddies. The Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Cavaliers were his passions.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce in July of 2017 after 61 years of marriage and his parents, Ora Sr. and Margaret Simpson. Ora is survived by his son, David of Beavercreek.
Ora received exceptional attention and care from the Veterans Administration personnel here in Dayton for which he was exceedingly grateful. He looked forward to his home care givers who provided help and companionship.
Visitation for Colonel Simpson will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, OH 45432 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Funeral services will follow the visitation at the funeral home at 12:30 pm with burial to follow at Dayton National Cemetery with full military honors.
