Ollie Virginia Coomer
Age 90, of Beavercreek, OH went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 7, 2010 with her family at her side. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
She was born in Richmond, KY to Banford and Pearl Benton, on June 7, 1920. She was next to the youngest child born. The family moved to Indiana in 1922 and on to Dayton in 1935. Ollie was always exceeding the expectations of others as well as her own. She developed pneumonia shortly after birth and was not expected to live but obviously recovered. In 1943 she felt the call of the Lord to attend Bible School in preparation for entering missions work. Many thought, and some told her, that she would not be able to do the course work required due to her not having completed high school. She trusted totally in the Lord and graduated from Open Bible Institute in Des Moines, Iowa on June 13, 1947 with an Evangelistic and Ministerial Degree.
She met Seldon Coomer at her church and they married on August 15th, 1950. She was always active in her church. She taught Sunday School for years and ultimately became the Superintendent of the Primary Department. She loved to sing and sang in the church choir for many years. She loved serving the Lord in every capacity she could and spent over 30 years corresponding with many missionaries all over the world. She received many letters and gifts from so many of her friends whom she wrote and supported in every way she could. One of her greatest loves was praying to her Lord which she did daily. She had a large list of loved ones and friends that she never gave up on and was witnessing to others the day she went into the hospital. She loved the Lord and always wanted to tell everyone she met about God's Free Gift of Salvation.
Ollie was preceded in death by Seldon in 1993, and her sisters: Stella, Viola, Alberta, Beatrice, Hazel, and her brothers: Harmon, Mort, Wig, and George.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Andrews of Beavercreek, her son, Glen Roger Coomer and wife Kathy of Burlington, KY, Seldon's children, Jerry, June, John, and Jean, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation from 12:00 – 2:00 will precede the Funeral Service which will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the First Church of the Open Bible, 4990 Old Troy Pike, Huber Heights, OH.
