Norma Jean Sears, born on February 14, 1941, in Dayton, Ohio, departed this world peacefully on March 11, 2025, at her residence in New Lebanon, Ohio. A beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, Norma's warmth and laughter touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Norma dedicated several years of her life to a fulfilling career in retail, working at the Metropolitan Clothing Store and Value City Furniture, where her cheerful demeanor brightened the shopping experience. She also devoted 24 years to H and R Block as a tax preparer and supervisor, exhibiting her keen intellect and commitment to helping others manage their finances.
Education was important to Norma, who attended Wilbur Wright High School and graduated from Patterson Co-Op in 1959. It was evident even in her youth that her compassion and generous spirit were defining traits. As she grew, these qualities blossomed, shaping her into the dedicated wife and mother she became.
Norma's personality was one of joy and kindness. With a good sense of humor and a compassionate heart, she always lent a listening ear and offered help to anyone in need. Family meals were a cherished tradition in her household, where laughter and love filled the air — a memorable moment being when she lovingly prepared her famous tuna casserole, though perhaps a bit too enthusiastically, forgetting the crucial ingredient, the tuna!
In her leisure time, Norma enjoyed playing cards, with her favorite being Euchre. She also relished games of Scrabble and Uno, bringing a competitive but cheerful spirit to every gathering. Her love for socializing made the lives of those around her all the richer, as she formed lasting friendships and nurtured those she cared for.
She leaves behind her beloved daughter Cathy Marquis and son Jim Sears, who continue to treasure the values and love she instilled in them. Norma also leaves her brother Robert E. Marshall and sister Marilyn Monroe, along with multiple nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry her memories close to their hearts.
Norma was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 47 years, Norman Dale Sears, her parents Clarence and Florence Marshall, son-in-law Dennis Marquis, and brother David K. Marshall. Their absence will be felt deeply, and their memories will forever remain a part of her legacy.
A visitation will be held in her honor on March 18, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM. Family and friends are encouraged to join together to celebrate Norma's remarkable life and the love she so freely shared.
Norma Jean Sears will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the love she spread will live on through all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Please consider making a donation in Norma's memory to the American Heart Association or Day City Hospice.
