Norma Murphy

January 1, 1943 — February 4, 2023

Norma Murphy, age 80 of Dayton, passed away on February 4, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born on January 1, 1943 in Dayton, OH the daughter of Otto and Martha "Becky" Sabrowski.

Norma is survived by her three children, Brian (Michelle) Murphy, Kevin "the Favorite" (Laura) Murphy and Erin (Andy) Deel; six grandchildren, Lauren (Donn) Rutherford, Josh (Cortney) Murphy, Katie Murphy, Jaryd (Alyson) Murphy, Ryan Murphy and Aidan Murphy; seven great-grandchildren Harper Rutherford, Raegan Murphy, Taylor Rutherford Maverick Murphy, Avery Rutherford, Bo Rutherford and Mytchell Murphy; three brothers Raymond (Sandy) Sabrowski, David Sabrowski and Michael (Sue) Sabrowski. Norma is also survived by numerous family and friends.

Norma enjoyed being retired from National City Mortgage. She was an avid reader who especially loved the hard back versions of her books (which she did her best to keep pristine). Norma loved Christmas, the Cincinnati Reds, ancient Egypt, her cat, watching the Oscars with her daughter Erin and going to see terrible movies with her son Kevin and her grandsons Ryan and Aidan. She also loved reminiscing about her favorite family memories of watching all of her grandchildren playing sports, "Murphy Day" (shopping on the day after Thanksgiving), time at the Montgomery County Fair, road trips with her best friend Linda McElroy, the crazy things she and her brothers did growing up and many, many more. Those who loved her will never forget those stories. Norma is most famous for her incredible recipes (creamy potatoes, Thanksgiving stuffing, potato salad) and as the originator of the family tradition of "The Murphy Box" (an old Avon box that she used to wrap a special Christmas gift in every year that became a source of rivalry amongst her children). Norma is loved and will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Norma's memory.

The family hopes those who would like to honor Norma will join them for a memorial celebration at the home of Brian and Michelle Murphy. Norma wished to be cremated and the memorial celebration details will be announced on Facebook when the final arrangements are made.
